PSO is pleased to present a text, sound, and image piece by Houston-based artist Lauren Klotzman. I have admired Klotzman's work for a long time and was blown away by their recent solo show at Ivester Gallery. I especially love the video paintings they make with analog modular synthesizers and the relationships between them and the gouache paintings.

ABOUT LAUREN KLOTZMAN

Lauren Klotzman is an interdisciplinary artist who seeks to push the boundaries of what painting is; their studio is a feedback system containing an anti-disciplinary practice driven by many media forms. As a video practitioner, Klotzman is an instrumentalist, operating an analog modular video synthesizer to create "video paintings" via electricity. In all media, Klotzman is interested in how time and energy – as intertwined forces – compose not only the acts of art making, but existence and consciousness. Based primarily in Texas, they are a recent MFA graduate from Yale Painting. Current research topics include historical computing, New Materialism, perception, consciousness, non-human intelligence, and "nostalgia of the future." They have exhibited internationally, and their writings have been published by Hyperallergic and Glasstire, among others.
