NO. 261 | ON THE PORCH WITH RAHIM FORTUNE, AUSTIN TX JULY 21, 2026
I had the distinct pleasure of sharing the porch with the amazing Austin based photographer and accomplished guitar picker Rahim Fortune. Rahim really brought it; he has a great ear for Western Swing and plays all kinds of leads. You can hear him in your left ear, and he cooks from get-go.
It was super fun to hang out on the porch, talk about photographs and music, and while away the afternoon making, as Tim Kerr calls, it "wooden music."
The piece starts out with Rahim playing a killer solo on his cut-away Ibanez laced up with nylon strings. At the beginning of the session, I was playing an old Recording King strung up in Nashville tuning, something I have only tried once before when I played with Gavin Watts and first heard of from John Hunt, who used it on a previous PSO collaboration.
The image was made of the PSO pecan tree with my Mamiya 7 with Tri-X film. This time, there is no messing around. Just the picture filling up the screen for the duration of the sounds.

ABOUT RAHIM FORTUNE
Rahim Fortune, born 1994, is a visual artist from the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma. He uses photography to ask fundamental questions about American identity. Focusing on the narratives of individual families and communities, he explores shifting geographies of migration and resettlement and the way that these histories are written on the landscapes of Texas and the American South.
